DOMAINS FOR SALE
What if the .com domain name you have chosen is already taken?
You have a few options:
- register the domain name with anoter TLD, if available
- search for another suitable domain name
- ask the owner of the domain name you want if he/she wants to sell it
Sometimes a domain name is already taken but no website is developed for it because the owner has no time do develop or does not want to develop it.
In the latter case there are good chances that the domain name is for sale, then you may find convenient to buy the domain name, but beware of cybersquatters.
Here is the definition of Cybersquatting by Wipikedia:
Cybersquatting is a derogatory term used to describe the practice of registering and claiming rights over Internet domain names which are, arguably, not for the taking. The cybersquatter then offers the domain to the person or company who owns a trademark contained within the name at an inflated price, an act which some deem to be extortion.
You may find out who is the owner (registrant) of a domain name by querying the WHOIS record for the domain name. Any domain name registrar (organization that manages Internet domain names and that you can register domain names with) should provide an online utility to query the WHOIS database.
